a pig’S JOURNEY -
IN COLLABORATION WITH CULTURES OF CLIMATE
Collaborating with cultures of climate - a pig’s journey (2025)
For this project, in collaboration with Cultures of Climate, I produced a series of illustrations intended to represent a conceptual Children’s storybook about animal activism/rights; this narrative follows a pig as he makes the journey to an animal sanctuary, he’s shown the way by a number of helpful critters along the way (and tricked by more mischevious ones).
This collection of illustrations were put on exhibition in the University of Huddersfield’s Barbara Hepworth building in March 2025.
The main inspiration for this project has been the Pigs in the Wood animal sanctuary and my own visit there. My inspiration behind implementing narrative based elements (and then eventually focusing on children’s storybooks) related to the stories behind each pig living at the sanctuary- these were made part of the experience, and were told as we were toured around the sanctuary. The particular inspiring element was the calendars they sell. On each month it displays a pig, and next to it their own story is shared.
“Pigs in the Wood is a non-profit sanctuary for pigs and other animals that have been rescued from various situations. We are based in the village of Scissett, Hudderfield in 10 acres of woodland where the pigs roam free and live naturally. The wood is currently home to 20 pigs that are cared for by our team of volunteers who work 7 days a week ensuring the needs of our residents are always met”- Pigs in the Wood website
